KILLINGTON, VT — A Rutland man faces multiple charges after allegedly resisting arrest and leading police on a chase that ended in Mendon on March 18.

Matthew Bradley, 40, of Rutland, was located at Killington Auto shortly after noon Wednesday by Killington Police, who were assisting Rutland City Police in locating him for allegedly violating an Abuse Prevention Order and Conditions of Release.

When officers attempted to take Bradley into custody, he allegedly displayed furtive movements and actively resisted by fighting with police before fleeing on foot to a parked vehicle.

Bradley was unresponsive to both TASER and pepper spray deployment as use of force escalated, according to police.

He then allegedly entered a vehicle, started it and drove off, crashing into a parked car and storage container.

Police followed Bradley down Killington Road to Route 4, where he allegedly crossed several lanes of traffic, violated speed limits and committed various other motor vehicle violations before traveling west toward Rutland.

Vermont State Police assisted and deployed stop-sticks.

The pursuit ended in Mendon as Bradley’s tires began to run flat.

Police later learned Bradley had allegedly not paid the full amount owed to Killington Auto and intentionally shortchanged the merchant.

Bradley was charged with resisting arrest, eluding police, negligent operation, theft of services and leaving the scene of an accident.

He was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for medical evaluation by Regional Ambulance Service and turned over to Rutland City Police.

A court official ordered Bradley held at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility with several conditions of release and bail set at $5,000.

Bradley was scheduled to be arraigned on March 19 at 12:30 p.m. on the five charges in addition to the original charges from Rutland City Police Department’s investigation.
