Two illegal firearms seized in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Springfield police arrested a man and seized two loaded firearms after he allegedly pointed a gun at an adult and three children Monday evening.

Officers responded to the 0-100 block of Central Street around 7 p.m. for an assist call.

Police received information that a suspect had allegedly pointed a gun at an adult and three children.

Officers observed the suspect, later identified as Bobby Guzman, 27, of Springfield, in the area and he began running away.

Officers received information that Guzman had entered a home on the 0-100 block of Adams Street.

Officers set up a perimeter around the home and located Guzman in the basement around 8:10 p.m.

Officers placed Guzman under arrest.

During a search of the basement, officers recovered two illegal firearms.

One firearm was reported stolen out of Springfield, and another firearm was reported lost in Florida.

One of the firearms was loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 15 rounds, making it a large-capacity firearm.

Guzman has previous convictions for the possession of an illegal firearm and breaking and entering.

Guzman is charged with five counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, receiving stolen property less than $1,200, breaking and entering during the daytime for a felony while armed, two counts of carrying a loaded firearm without a license – second offense, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony – subsequent offense, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device, and possession of a firearm with three prior violent/drug crimes.
