CORTLAND, NY — New York State Police cited employees at two Speedway locations for selling alcohol to minors during an underage drinking detail on March 13, 2026.
An employee at Speedway on Tompkins Street in Cortland and an employee at Speedway on Port Watson Street in Cortland were each issued appearance tickets under the New York State ABC Law of Prohibited Sale of Alcohol to a Person Under 21, a violation.
The detail was conducted in Cortland County.
Thirteen businesses were recognized for compliance during the operation.
The compliant businesses were Mirabito on NY-281 in Tully, Mobil on NY-281 in Homer, Byrne Dairy on NY-281 in Homer, Groton Avenue Liquor Store on Groton Avenue in Cortland, Sunoco on NY-281 in Cortland, Grand Union on NY-281 in Cortland, Discount Liquors on Route 13 in Cortland, Sunoco on Port Watson Street in Cortland, Byrne Port Watson on Port Watson Street in Cortland, Sunoco on NY-11 in Cortland, Speedway on NY-11 in Cortland, Gregg’s Super Market on Cortland Street in Marathon and Mirabito on Broome Street in Marathon.
During the investigations, businesses were checked using a trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth if asked.
