Grenade neutralized in Limington

LIMINGTON, ME — Maine State Police said the Augusta Regional Communications Center received a report at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, of a suspected grenade found near a dumpster along Number 1 Road in Limington.

Troopers from the Southern Field Troop responded and identified the object as a potentially hazardous device, police said.

The Maine State Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene.

Technicians attempted to X-ray the item but were unable to determine the exact status of the energetic material inside, police said.

The item was countercharged on site out of an abundance of caution and was deemed safe, according to police.
