ORWELL, VT — Vermont State Police responded to a single vehicle crash with entrapment on Old Sawmill Road near the intersection with Vail Road on March 15, 2026, at approximately 5:33 p.m.
Upon arrival, troopers found both occupants trapped inside a 2009 Honda Civic that was pressed against several trees.
Members of the Orwell Fire Department extricated the passenger, Michael Guess, 28, of Brandon, who succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.
The operator, Aron G. Therrien, 27, of Brandon, was extricated by members of the Orwell Fire Department and Orwell First Response and was life flighted to UVM Medical Center with serious life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing and in the beginning stages.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors to the crash.
