Woman arrested on DUI, child cruelty charges in West Rutland

WEST RUTLAND, VT — A traffic stop on Business Route 4 led to the arrest of a woman on suspicion of driving under the influence with an improperly restrained child in her vehicle.

Troopers from the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks were on patrol March 14, 2026, when they observed a motor vehicle violation at approximately 3:06 p.m.

The operator was identified as Kimberly Butler, 44, of Bennington.

While speaking with Butler, troopers detected signs of impairment.

Butler was screened for impairment and taken into custody for suspicion of operating under the influence.

During the stop, troopers also observed a 1-year-old child in the vehicle who was not properly restrained in a child safety seat.

Butler was transported to the Rutland Barracks for processing.

At the conclusion of processing, she was issued a criminal citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court – Criminal Division at a later date.
