TUPPER LAKE, NY — New York State Police have charged four employees of the Sunmount Developmental Center in connection with the assault of a patient and falsifying information about the incident.
State Police responded to the facility on Monroe Avenue at approximately 11:19 p.m. on Aug. 14 for a report of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.
A preliminary investigation determined that multiple employees were involved in the inappropriate treatment of a patient.
Further investigation revealed that employees also provided false information regarding an incident that occurred in the facility’s dining hall on Aug. 14.
The investigation determined that a patient in the dining hall began acting in a manner that required staff intervention.
Employees restrained the patient, but during the incident the patient was struck multiple times in the head and ribs, resulting in bruising and lacerations.
On Feb. 26, State Police charged Ryan J. Roy, 30, of Winthrop, with endangering the welfare of an incompetent/physically disabled person in the 1st degree, official misconduct, and falsifying business records in the 1st degree.
Roy was processed at State Police Tupper Lake and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Tupper Lake Court.
On March 5, State Police charged Peter T. Devine, 58, of Massena, with endangering the welfare of an incompetent/physically disabled person in the 1st degree, official misconduct, and falsifying business records in the 1st degree.
Devine was processed at State Police Ray Brook and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Tupper Lake Court.
On March 9, State Police charged Jennifer D. Ashline, 41, of Plattsburgh, with endangering the welfare of an incompetent/physically disabled person in the 1st degree and official misconduct.
Ashline was processed at State Police Ray Brook and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Tupper Lake Court.
On March 10, State Police charged Curtis A. Moulton, 36, of Winthrop, with endangering the welfare of an incompetent/physically disabled person in the 1st degree and official misconduct.
