HOMER, NY — A Homer man was arrested on drunken driving and other charges after a convenience store clerk reported he appeared intoxicated when attempting to purchase alcohol.
Derek J. Fiene, 52, of Homer, was arrested at approximately 12:52 p.m. March 11, 2026, by officers with the Village of Homer Police Department.
Fiene was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree, a felony.
Police said a convenience store clerk in the village reported denying the sale of beer to Fiene because he appeared to be intoxicated and that he left the store operating a motor vehicle.
Officers subsequently observed Fiene operating a motor vehicle on Center Street.
Upon encountering him, officers determined he was operating the vehicle in an intoxicated condition, police said.
Police also determined Fiene was operating the motor vehicle while his driving privileges had been revoked.
Fiene was processed at the police department and taken to the Cortland County Jail to be held for Centralized Arraignment Part.
He was released March 13, 2026.
