RICHMOND, ME — Three suspects were apprehended following a vehicle chase and crash early Friday morning on Interstate 295.
Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted Maine State Police and Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office members who had been chasing a vehicle south on I-295 around 12:30 a.m.
The vehicle went off the road and crashed near Exit 43.
Three suspects fled the vehicle and ran in various directions.
Two Maine State Troopers and two Sagadahoc County deputies searched the area of Route 197 in Richmond.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., while checking KO Storage, Trooper Zach Kindelan discovered an unlocked storage unit.
Deputies Alex Faith and Dan Ouellette helped search the unit and found one suspect who was wet and cold.
He was transported to Maine General to be checked out.
A little after 8 a.m., Sgt. Ian Alexander observed a male subject crouched down near the wood line of I-295 near mile marker 40.
Deputy Chad Carleton was called to the area with his K-9 Jordy to conduct a track.
A cell phone was discovered during the track.
The track headed west through the woods and came out to the Post Road in Bowdoinham.
Deputy Matt Fischer saw a man jogging south on the Post Road and detained him in his cruiser.
K-9 Jordy tracked to the cruiser and indicated he found his person.
A school bus driver called to report a man walking south on the Ridge Road in Bowdoinham wearing a shirt, shorts and no shoes.
Richmond Police Chief James Donnell responded and detained the individual.
All three individuals are from out of state and had Venezuelan IDs but did not speak English.
They were turned over to the Augusta Police Department as suspects in a criminal theft case.
