ANSONIA, CT — A gray Jeep struck multiple vehicles before crashing into a pole and catching fire Sunday afternoon, leaving one passenger in critical condition.
A motorist reported to police around 4:30 p.m. Sunday that their car had been struck by a gray Jeep at the intersection of Bridge Street and West Main Street before the Jeep fled the scene.
An officer responding to locate the vehicle found the Jeep had been involved in a second crash on Pershing Drive at Division Street.
In the second collision, the Jeep struck two more vehicles before hitting a pole and catching fire.
All four occupants of the Jeep were injured, with one passenger suffering serious head and neck injuries.
That passenger remains in critical condition.
Police are not releasing the names of those involved at this time.
Chief Williams thanked the Derby Police Department, Ansonia Rescue Medical Services, Ansonia Fire Department and the Fairfield Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team for their assistance.
The investigation is ongoing.
