Man arrested on grand larceny charge in New Hartford

NEW HARTFORD, NY — Police arrested a 27-year-old man on grand larceny charges after a $2,000 theft at Walmart on Commercial Drive.

Brandon Trask, who has no known address, was taken into custody at 6 p.m. March 10, 2026.

Police were called by Walmart loss prevention officers who were conducting surveillance on a suspect inside the store.

Trask was observed selecting over 100 assorted items totaling $2,000.

He then exited the store, passing all points of purchase without making any attempt to pay for the items.

Trask was stopped and detained by loss prevention, who recovered some merchandise, and police were contacted.

Upon the arrival of police officers, Trask attempted to flee from loss prevention but was apprehended by the arriving officers.

Trask ran and became trapped inside a vestibule area of the store where he began to fight with police officers who were arresting him.

Once taken into custody, Trask was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony; obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor; and resisting arrest.

Trask was arraigned in Oneida County Central Arraignment Part Court.
