ROXBURY, MA — Officers recovered a loaded firearm during a traffic stop Tuesday night.

At about 9:14 p.m. on March 10, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 were on patrol in the area of Humboldt Avenue and Seaver Street when they heard a motor vehicle playing loud music.

Officers observed a group of individuals holding cans of alcohol as they walked toward Humboldt Avenue.

One individual in the group saw the officers and immediately grabbed his waist and turned his body away.

When police passed the group, the individuals turned around and jogged toward a motor vehicle in an attempt to flee the area.

Officers pulled in front of the vehicle and activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

The four occupants of the vehicle were not wearing seatbelts, and officers requested identification.

After further investigation, officers ordered all occupants to exit the vehicle.

During a pat frisk of the front passenger, officers recovered a firearm from his right pant pocket.

The firearm was determined to be a Smith & Wesson M&P 40 with a gold light attachment and nine rounds in the magazine.

Ian Day, 21, of Sanford, Maine, was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
