NORTH TONAWANDA, NY — A woman was arrested on felony drug-impaired driving charges after a motor vehicle accident Sunday afternoon.
North Tonawanda officers responded to the intersection of Zimmerman Street and East Robinson Street at approximately 4:17 p.m. on March 9 for a report of a motor vehicle accident.
Upon arriving, officers located the operator of the striking vehicle, Cortney Santasiero, of North Tonawanda.
Santasiero’s child was also in her vehicle at the time of the accident.
Santasiero was displaying signs of drug impairment and was administered standardized field sobriety tests, which she failed.
She was subsequently placed under arrest and brought to the North Tonawanda Police Department, where a drug recognition expert evaluated her.
Upon completion of the evaluation, Santasiero was charged with aggravated DWI (Leandra’s Law), a class E felony; endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor; driving while ability impaired by drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor; driving while ability impaired by drugs, combined effects, an unclassified misdemeanor; and following too closely, a traffic infraction.
Santasiero’s child was properly restrained in her vehicle at the time of the accident and was uninjured.
He was left in the custody of a relative.
Santasiero was held pending arraignment in North Tonawanda City Court.
