Two arrested on DWI charges in New Hartford

NEW HARTFORD, NY — New Hartford police arrested two motorists on impaired driving charges March 9.

At approximately 2 a.m., police responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on the State Route 840 entrance ramp at Middlesettlement Road to Route 840 westbound.

Officers found a Ford van had exited the designated lane of travel and entered a gravel bed along the shoulder, becoming stuck.

Field sobriety tests were administered to the operator of the van, identified as Daniel Mendez Perez, 39, of Baltimore, Maryland.

Mendez Perez was arrested and charged with failure to keep right, throwing refuse on a highway, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with a .08% blood alcohol content or higher, and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a .18% blood alcohol content or higher.

He was released on vehicle and traffic tickets and will answer the charges in Town of New Hartford Court at a later date.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., police responded to Seneca Turnpike at the intersection with Woods Highway for a two-car motor vehicle accident.

Officers determined that a 2015 Nissan SUV traveling westbound on Seneca Turnpike collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling south on Woods Highway at the intersection.

The investigation determined that Jedidiah Gaudin, 30, of Utica, failed to stop at a red traffic signal at the intersection and caused the collision.

Officers detected signs of impairment exhibited by Gaudin.

A New Hartford police drug recognition expert conducted field sobriety tests and further evaluated Gaudin after he was placed under arrest.

Gaudin was charged with failure to stop at a red traffic signal and driving while ability impaired by drugs.

He was released on vehicle and traffic tickets and will answer the charges in Town of New Hartford Court at a later date.
