AUBURN, MA — A lengthy investigation into suspicious financial activity at a local business has resulted in theft charges against a Millbury man.

The manager of Bobcat contacted the Auburn Police Department in January after discovering that company inventory did not match several “return” receipts in their records.

Management suspected that an employee had been processing fraudulent transactions.

Detective Matthew Alexandrovich was assigned to investigate the incident.

The investigation revealed that Gary DeAdder, 44, of Millbury, had direct access to customer sales records and used that access to process fictitious returns to bank cards in his own name.

The fraudulent transactions occurred on at least 36 occasions between 2022 and early January.

Over the course of several months, Alexandrovich conducted an extensive investigation that included grand jury subpoenas to financial institutions.

The investigation confirmed that the fraudulent returns, totaling $27,307.82, were refunded to bank cards belonging to DeAdder.

DeAdder has been charged with larceny over $1,200 by single scheme.
