BOSTON, MA — Two men were arrested after police responding to a shots fired call discovered fireworks and recovered a firearm in Mattapan on Monday night.
Officers assigned to District B-3 received a call for shots fired in the area of Callender Street at about 10:04 p.m.
While responding, a supervisor alerted officers to individuals shooting off fireworks on Baird Street.
Upon arrival, officers observed a group congregating near a vehicle that had several open and unopened packages of fireworks on top of it.
As officers exited their cruiser, one male began sprinting toward Blue Hill Avenue.
Officers pursued on foot and observed the suspect discarding a jacket.
Multiple officers assisted and placed the suspect into handcuffs.
Police conducted a pat frisk of the jacket and recovered a firearm from inside the right-side pocket.
The firearm was determined to be a Polymer 80 style ghost gun with 17 rounds in the magazine.
The group became hostile and threatening to an officer who remained with them on scene.
As additional units arrived, a male suspect continued to threaten an officer and bumped him in the chest.
Multiple de-escalation tactics were attempted, but the suspect continued to threaten officers.
Officers attempted to place the suspect under arrest, but he refused to place his hands behind his back.
Officers were able to handcuff the suspect, and he was transported from the scene for booking.
Kahnari White, 24, of Mattapan, was arrested and charged with carry a loaded firearm without a license, carry a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm without an FID card and possession of a large capacity feeding device.
Sean Galvez, 40, of Quincy, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resist arrest and assault and battery on a police officer.
Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
