Teen arrested on gun charge in Utica

UTICA, NY — A 15-year-old male was arrested after police found him in possession of a ghost gun during the execution of a search warrant.

Utica Police units were dispatched to a residence on the 700 block of Elizabeth Street at approximately 5 a.m. on March 4, 2026, regarding a shots fired investigation.

The case was assigned to investigators with the GIVE Unit.

Through their investigation, information was developed that the shots were likely fired from an individual who resides in the home in question.

Based on this information, a search warrant was applied for and granted.

During the execution of the warrant, the 15-year-old male was found to have a 9mm ghost gun on his person.

The male was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Utica Police Department.

He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm.

Ballistic comparisons are currently being undertaken to determine if this gun matches the casings that were located during the original shots fired investigation.
