DANBURY, CT — Police are warning residents about scammers impersonating officers and demanding payment over the phone.
The Danbury Police Department said it has received reports of callers posing as police officers and using the names of real department members.
The scammers claim the person being called has an arrest warrant for failing to appear in court, according to police.
The callers may provide fake badge numbers to sound legitimate, police said.
The department said it will never request payment or personal financial information over the phone.
Police are asking anyone who receives a suspicious call to contact the department directly at 203-797-4611.
