Police warn of toll violation scam in Dallas Township

1 min read

DALLAS TOWNSHIP, PA — Police are warning residents about a text message scam involving fake toll violation notices and court hearing summons.

The Dallas Township Police Department said the fraudulent messages include official-looking documents designed to appear legitimate.

Police said courts do not send hearing notices by text message and that official notices are sent by mail or served in person.

The fake documents contain several red flags, according to police, including no specific person being named on the document, generic names like “John Smith” listed for both the judge and clerk, and unrealistic timelines with issue dates and hearing dates only a couple of days apart.

Police are advising residents not to click links, scan QR codes or send payment in response to these messages.

Anyone who receives such a message should delete it and block the sender, police said.

Dallas Township residents who believe they may have been the victim of a scam can call police at 570-674-2003.
