Man charged with DWI with child passenger in Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, NY — A 47-year-old man faces felony charges after state police say he was driving while intoxicated with a 4-year-old child in his vehicle.

New York State Police from the Cortlandt Barracks conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling northbound on N. James Street at approximately 3:44 a.m. March 8, 2026, for a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

The operator, Jorge Quizhpi of Peekskill, displayed signs of intoxication during the stop, police said.

Quizhpi failed standardized field sobriety tests, according to police.

Police discovered a 4-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Quizhpi was taken into custody and transported to the Cortlandt Barracks for processing, where he refused to submit to a chemical breath test.

The child was safely released to a sober third party.

Quizhpi was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, a class E felony under Leandra’s Law, driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor, and a vehicle and traffic law violation.

He was arraigned in Westchester County Centralized Arraignment Court and released on his own recognizance.

Quizhpi is scheduled to appear before the City of Peekskill Court on March 12, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
