Man arrested on retail theft charge in Ephrata

EPHRATA, PA — Police arrested a Lancaster man on a retail theft charge following a shoplifting incident at Walmart.

Bryan Harris, 23, of Lancaster, was arrested by Ephrata Police after an incident at the store at 890 E. Main St. in Ephrata Township.

Police said Walmart reported that on Dec. 18 at 11:15 p.m., Harris was using self-checkout and scanned a lower-priced item valued at $1.24 while attempting to leave the store with merchandise valued at $49.97.

A self-checkout host attempted to stop Harris, who dropped his keys, according to police.

Another customer intervened and grabbed the stolen merchandise, and Harris ran out of the store, police said.

Through investigation, Harris was identified and interviewed, police said.

Harris admitted to the incident, according to police.

A non-traffic summary citation was filed on Harris for retail theft on Jan. 20.
