DUI charges after vehicle crashes into marker in Glastenbury

GLASTENBURY, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a motorist on suspicion of DUI after responding to a report of a vehicle off the road on U.S. Route 7 early Saturday morning.

Troopers responded to the scene at 12:24 a.m. and found a 2021 Jeep Compass off the side of the road after it had struck a roadway marker near mile marker 22.4.

No operator was present with the vehicle.

The operator was later located hiding in the woods a short distance down the road from the crash.

While speaking with the operator, identified as Dylan M. Niedecker, 31, of Arlington, troopers observed multiple indicators of impairment.

Niedecker was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

The vehicle sustained moderate front-end damage.

Weather conditions were clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash.

Niedecker was transported to the Shaftsbury Barracks for processing and later released on a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Bennington Criminal Division, on March 23 at 8:30 a.m.
