GATES, NY — Police executed a search warrant at a Motel 6 on Feb. 20 as part of a drug sales investigation.
Officers detained Mary Carey, 37, of Rochester, who was inside the hotel room at 1273 Chili Avenue at the time of the search.
Police recovered a loaded 9mm Ruger handgun, cocaine, fentanyl, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia including scales, cutting agents and drug packaging.
On March 4, police took a second person, Ivan Atkins, 60, of Rochester, into custody in connection with the investigation.
Both were charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the second degree.
They were transported to Monroe County Jail for arraignment.
Atkins has seven prior felony convictions, including drug possession convictions, according to police.
Carey has no prior felony convictions.
