Two arrested in assault near Somerset bar

SOMERSET, MA — Two men have been arrested in connection with an assault that left a victim with severe facial injuries near a local establishment.

The Somerset Police Department was contacted Saturday by an individual receiving medical treatment at Charlton Memorial Hospital emergency room.

Patrol Officer Quinn Fallon responded to the hospital and spoke with a male victim who had sustained severe facial injuries from an assault and battery that occurred near The Mallard establishment earlier that morning.

Detective James Cardella was assigned to investigate due to the severity of the injuries.

With assistance from Patrol Officers Russell Bezanson and Luis Torres, who secured video surveillance from area businesses, Detective Cardella developed probable cause and applied for arrest warrants.

Brad Nickerson, 26, of Dighton, was arrested at approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday at his home by Detective Lieutenant Jason Matos, Detective Sergeant Nicholas Davidson and Detective James Cardella.

The Dighton Police Department assisted in taking Nickerson into custody.

Zachary Morrow, 26, of Dighton, was arrested at approximately 11 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in Fall River by Detective Lieutenant Jason Matos, Detective Sergeant Nicholas Davidson, Detective James Cardella and Detective Donald Cormier.

The Fall River Police Department assisted in taking Morrow into custody.

Both men were charged with assault and battery, assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and strangulation or suffocation.
