GATES, NY — A Gates man faces a felony weapon charge after police say he accidentally shot himself while handling a handgun.
Gates Police Officers responded to a call on Howard Road at 12:30 a.m. Feb. 22 for a report of a shooting with one person already transported to the hospital.
Officers found a large amount of blood on the driveway and inside the house.
A 9mm casing was located inside the house, indicating that a bullet had been discharged from a firearm.
Officers responded to the hospital and confirmed that a person from the location had sustained an injury after a gun he was manipulating went off.
Officers located a 9mm Sig Sauer handgun belonging to the man.
Police identified the man as Alexander Henion, 25, of Gates.
Henion did not have a pistol permit to legally possess the handgun.
Henion was arrested Thursday and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony.
He was arraigned in the Town of Gates Court where he was released to pre-trial supervision.
