FALL RIVER, MA — A parolee was arrested early Thursday after police say he threw a loaded handgun and drugs from a third-floor apartment window during a search warrant execution.
Jayden Smith, 25, of Fall River, was taken into custody without incident at an apartment on Peckham Street around midnight.
Police say Smith was released from state prison in November after serving time for a manslaughter conviction.
He had been sentenced to 8.5 to 11.5 years in prison following a 2016 arrest on charges that included murder.
The department’s C.A.S.T. unit, supported by the Emergency Services Unit, executed the search warrant based on information that Smith was allegedly selling narcotics and possessed an illegal firearm.
Investigators also learned Smith was allegedly promoting and selling gang-related merchandise designed to antagonize the rival gang “Asian Boyz,” including baseball caps displaying an upside-down “A,” a symbol of disrespect toward the group.
As officers announced their presence and entered the building, detectives stationed outside observed a handgun and satchel being thrown from a third-floor apartment window.
Smith was found in the bedroom from which the items were thrown.
Police recovered a Glock 43X 9mm handgun with an extended magazine containing 19 rounds.
The satchel contained approximately 24.16 grams of fentanyl and 7.68 grams of cocaine, according to police.
Smith was charged with community parole supervision violation, possession with intent to distribute Class B drugs, trafficking heroin/morphine/opium/fentanyl 18-plus grams, carrying a firearm without a license (second offense), carrying a loaded firearm without a license (second offense), possession of a large capacity firearm, firearm violation with two prior violent/drug crimes, and possession of a large capacity firearm in a felony.
