EASTHAMPTON, MA — A Connecticut man faces multiple charges after allegedly driving head-on toward police cruisers and crashing into one on March 5.
Officers were clearing from a call in the area of Holyoke Street at approximately 8:21 p.m. when a silver Mitsubishi came off Cottage Street and began traveling head-on toward an officer in his lane.
The officer activated his emergency lights and the vehicle swerved back into the proper lane.
As the officer attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, a second officer further back in traffic activated her emergency lights after observing the situation and hearing radio transmissions.
The suspect’s vehicle then veered toward the second officer’s cruiser, colliding with it nearly head-on on Holyoke Street in the area of East Green Street.
There was moderate traffic in the area at the time, and officers were concerned for public safety.
Medical aid was provided by Easthampton and Northampton fire departments.
Traffic assistance was provided by the Massachusetts State Police.
The officer and occupants of the suspect vehicle were all transported to local hospitals for evaluation and released.
Josue Medina, 42, of New Britain, Connecticut, was arrested and charged with OUI alcohol fourth offense, OUI drugs, fail to stop for police, negligent operation, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession with intent to distribute Class D, speeding, marked lanes violation and failure to use care turning.
Medina was held without bail and arraigned at Northampton District Court, where he was found to be a danger and ordered held until his next hearing.
