TALLMAN, NY — The Ramapo Police Department investigated a report of suspicious materials at a residence that were later determined to be legal cleaning supplies.
Police were notified by the Rockland County Health Department at approximately 11 a.m. on March 5, 2026, of a possible clandestine laboratory at 3 Dalewood Drive.
Officers responded and confirmed the presence of suspicious materials.
The Tallman Fire Department, Rockland County Hazmat Team, and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation also responded to assist.
Dalewood Drive was temporarily closed while the Rockland County Hazmat Team conducted an assessment of the materials.
At approximately 6 p.m., the Hazmat Team determined the roadway was safe to reopen.
Police continued their investigation and determined at 7:50 p.m. that the material belonged to the homeowner and was being used as part of a cleaning process.
The materials involved are commercially available and can be purchased through local retail stores.
Federal partners who were present on scene and assisting with the investigation confirmed that the materials are safe and legal.
Officers have cleared from the scene and returned to their previously assigned duties.
