SPRINGFIELD, NJ — A Springfield resident was arrested Wednesday evening for unlawful possession of a handgun following a motor vehicle stop on Route 22 westbound within the township.
At approximately 8:25 p.m. on March 4, Springfield Police patrol officers A. Crutcher and R. Juiston conducted a motor vehicle stop of a silver 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee after observing multiple moving violations.
During the investigation, officers spotted a .45 Glock 30 handgun in the driver’s compartment of the Jeep.
The adult male driver was taken into custody without incident and later committed to the Essex County Jail pending a detention hearing.
The driver was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, reckless driving, careless driving, unsafe lane change, and failure to signal.
