HOMER, NY — Two people face felony weapon charges following a traffic stop at a convenience store on March 1.
Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop at Joe’s Kwik Mart, 31 S West Street, at approximately 8:57 p.m. for vehicle and traffic law violations.
Officers determined that the driver, Trevor R. Major, 38, of Cincinnatus, was operating the vehicle while his driving privileges were suspended.
Major was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance.
Major and a passenger, Regina F. Fiaschetti, 41, of Cortland, were found to be in possession of a loaded, unsecured handgun.
Both were arrested at approximately 9:10 p.m. and transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
Major was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree criminal contempt, first-degree failure to safely store a rifle/shotgun/firearm, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and multiple vehicle and traffic law infractions.
Fiaschetti was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child and first-degree failure to safely store a rifle/shotgun/firearm.
Both were arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process on March 2 at 10:00 a.m. and released on their own recognizance.
They are scheduled to appear in Town of Homer Court on March 3 at 5:00 p.m.
