GATES, NY — A 6-month-old child died Thursday following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Buffalo Road and Howard Road.
The Gates Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 10:15 a.m. on March 5, 2026, after receiving reports of a multi-vehicle accident with possible entrapment.
Officers confirmed upon arrival that occupants were trapped in both vehicles involved in the collision.
Gates Fire and Gates Ambulance responded to the scene and successfully removed individuals from the two heavily damaged vehicles.
The initial investigation revealed that a black SUV struck the rear of a white SUV that was stopped at the Buffalo Road traffic light facing eastbound at the Howard Road intersection.
Three occupants were in the white SUV: a driver, a front seat passenger and the 6-month-old child, who was secured in a child safety seat.
All three occupants were transported to the hospital with injuries.
The infant died at Strong Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.
The front seat passenger is in critical condition, and the driver is in serious condition.
The driver of the black SUV was also transported to the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
