NEW LONDON, CT — A Waterford man was arrested after allegedly brandishing a firearm during an argument and fleeing from police.

Members of the New London Police Department were dispatched to the area of 242 Nautilus Drive at approximately 8:50 p.m. March 3 for a report of a male brandishing a firearm while engaged in an argument.

Upon officers’ arrival on scene, the reported male subject fled the scene in a black Ford Fusion with additional occupants, despite officers’ attempts to stop him for further investigation of the gun-related incident.

A brief pursuit ensued but was subsequently terminated for safety reasons.

The associated information was immediately disseminated to other regional law enforcement agencies.

Connecticut State Police later stopped the vehicle on Interstate 395.

The operator of the black Ford Fusion was identified as Clayton Cyr, 23, of Waterford.

Additional investigation by state police at the traffic stop revealed that Cyr was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

A discarded firearm was located by state police.

Cyr was taken into custody without further incident and was charged by state police with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, reckless driving and failure to maintain proper lane.

Cyr was held on a $50,000 bond until his arraignment in court March 4.

The New London Police Department’s investigation of the gun-related incident remains active.
