Two-vehicle crash on Route 103 in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, VT — A two-vehicle crash occurred on Vermont Route 103 near the Rustic Rooster on March 3, 2026.

Vermont State Police troopers from the Rutland Barracks were notified of the crash at approximately 4:19 p.m.

Samuel Mora Cruz, 38, of Rutland, was traveling northbound on Route 103 in a 1999 Dodge Ram when he was unable to maintain his lane of travel, according to police.

Mora Cruz’s vehicle struck a southbound 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche operated by Stephen Flanders, 66, of Mount Holly, New York.

Both vehicles sustained severe front-end damage, with Mora Cruz’s vehicle also suffering severe right side damage.

Neither operator was injured in the crash.

Both operators were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

Road conditions at the time included snow coverage, and snow was falling during the incident.

The Shrewsbury Fire Department and Regional Ambulance Service assisted Vermont State Police at the scene.
