BRIDGEPORT, CT — A man wanted for failing to appear in court on manslaughter charges was found hiding under trash bags in a residence and taken into custody.
The Bridgeport Police Task Force arrested Wilber Martinez, 38, of Bridgeport, on March 3 at a home in the 100 block of Bronx Avenue.
Martinez failed to appear for his scheduled court date on Feb. 11, prompting the issuance of arrest warrants, police said.
He had been released on a $500,000 bond following his August 2023 arrest on charges including two counts of manslaughter with a motor vehicle, six counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of risk of injury to a child, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, reckless driving, speeding over 70 mph, driving without a license and additional motor vehicle-related offenses.
Task Force officers, comprised of local, state and federally assigned investigators, developed information on Feb. 27 that led them to believe Martinez was inside the Bronx Avenue residence.
Officers conducted an arrest operation at the location and found Martinez hiding beneath several trash bags inside the home.
He was taken into custody without incident.
Martinez is being held on charges of failure to appear in the first degree and failure to appear in the second degree.
His bond is set at $2,100,000.
