NEW HARTFORD, NY — A two-vehicle collision blocked both westbound lanes of State Route 840 at the Commercial Drive overpass Friday afternoon, causing significant traffic delays.
New Hartford police responded to the scene at 1:45 p.m. and found two heavily damaged vehicles blocking the roadway.
Police determined that a 2016 Audi operated by Arnel Sinanovic, 19, of Poland, was traveling westbound on State Route 840 near the Commercial Drive overpass.
A 2015 Audi operated by Michael Hartman, 77, of New York Mills, was also traveling westbound at the same time.
Both westbound vehicles became entangled with one another, causing Sinanovic’s vehicle to collide with the concrete center lane divider.
Hartman’s vehicle spun and came to rest in the center of the roadway, blocking uninvolved traffic for a period of time.
Sinanovic was issued a traffic ticket for unreasonable speed.
The New York Mills Fire Department and Edwards Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
