SHAFTSBURY, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a man on suspicion of driving under the influence after his truck went off the road and struck a mailbox Saturday afternoon.
James A. Salerno, 41, of Shaftsbury, was operating a 2014 Ford F-350 on Buck Hill Road near Rod and Gun Club Road when the crash occurred at 3:52 p.m. on March 1.
Troopers responded to the scene and identified Salerno as the operator of the vehicle.
Salerno displayed signs of impairment and was screened for suspicion of DUI, police said.
He was arrested and transported to the Shaftsbury State Police Barracks for processing.
Salerno was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash.
The truck sustained moderate damage to the front end.
Salerno was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Bennington Criminal Division on March 16 at 8:30 a.m.
He was later released to a sober party.
