KILLINGTON, VT — A man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from police and crashing his vehicle into a snowbank Saturday night.
Richard Meinzer, 35, of Killington, was arrested following a pursuit that began when a Windsor County Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle that had fled from the Ludlow Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. at the intersection of Vermont Route 100A and U.S. Route 4.
Meinzer’s vehicle failed to stop and eventually crashed into a snowbank at the intersection.
After the crash, Meinzer fled on foot, according to authorities.
During the chase, a deputy sustained a serious injury to his arm.
Members of the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, Woodstock Police, Ludlow Police and Vermont State Police responded to assist.
Meinzer was found hiding in a portable toilet outside of a nearby business a short time later and taken into custody.
He was charged with eluding police, gross negligent operation, DUI drug, resisting arrest, driving with a criminally suspended license and disorderly conduct.
Meinzer was cited to appear in Windsor Court on March 2 at 12:30 p.m. and lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 bail.
