BOSTON, MA — A 20-year-old man was arrested Saturday evening after officers recovered a loaded firearm during a traffic stop in Jamaica Plain.
Officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force stopped a vehicle near 71 Lamartine Street at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 28, 2026, after observing it traveling without a valid inspection sticker and with a non-functioning left headlight.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers identified an adult male driver and an adult male passenger, later identified as Widvenson Dorcent, 20, of Jamaica Plain.
The driver was unable to produce a driver’s license or vehicle registration and appeared increasingly nervous, according to police.
At one point, he removed his foot from the brake while the vehicle was not in park.
Officers suggested he check the glove compartment, where vehicle registrations are commonly stored.
The driver initially stated he did not have a key to open it.
As officers continued their investigation, the driver briefly inserted a key into the glove compartment but removed it after speaking with the passenger in another language.
At officers’ direction, he again used the key to unlock the compartment.
When the glove box was partially opened, officers immediately observed what appeared to be a firearm inside.
Both occupants were removed from the vehicle and detained.
A subsequent search of the glove compartment resulted in the recovery of a Heckler & Koch USP firearm containing one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine.
Youth Violence Strike Force detectives responded to take custody of the firearm and continue the investigation.
Dorcent is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
The driver was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for operating a vehicle with defective lights and for failing to display a valid inspection sticker.
