SHAFTSBURY, VT — A New York man was cited for excessive speed after state police clocked him driving more than 40 mph over the speed limit on U.S. Route 7.
Leonard Swerdlof, 36, of New York, New York, was stopped at approximately 7:20 p.m. Feb. 28, 2026, near mile marker 17.
Troopers from the Vermont State Police Shaftsbury Barracks were conducting speed enforcement in the area, where the posted speed limit is 55 mph.
Police observed a vehicle traveling in excess of the speed limit and confirmed its speed at 101 mph using radar.
The vehicle was stopped without incident.
Swerdlof was issued a criminal citation to appear in Bennington County Superior Court – Criminal Division on April 13, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. to answer to charges of excessive speed and negligent operation.
