UPPER ALLEN TOWNSHIP, PA — Police arrested a Mechanicsburg woman after a hit-and-run crash that left a good Samaritan seriously injured on Dec. 27.
Nancy M. Schaeffer, 59, of Mechanicsburg, was charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance at the highest rate, accidents involving death or personal injury, driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance for general impairment and careless driving.
Upper Allen Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving a white Ford Escape in the area of E. Winding Hill Road at Orchard Boulevard around 1:04 p.m.
Officers arrived at the location but did not immediately locate the vehicle.
Upon checking the surrounding area, officers located the Ford Escape crashed further down the road on Orchard Boulevard near Nursery Drive South.
Schaeffer, the owner and operator of the vehicle, was found to be heavily intoxicated and was arrested at the scene.
The investigation determined that two successive crashes occurred involving Schaeffer and her vehicle that day.
The first crash occurred in the area of E. Winding Hill Road at Orchard Boulevard.
During this collision, Schaeffer struck a good Samaritan with her vehicle.
The individual sustained serious bodily injury as a result.
After striking the individual, Schaeffer did not stop to remain on scene.
She continued south on Orchard Boulevard, eventually crashing and disabling her vehicle in the area of Nursery Drive South.
Schaeffer has been processed and arraigned on the charges, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a later date.
