Bus strikes home in Rotterdam

ROTTERDAM, NY — Two juveniles were arrested after allegedly stealing a passenger bus and crashing it into a residence.

Rotterdam Police responded to a call at approximately 6 a.m. Wednesday from a resident reporting that a small passenger bus had struck their home on North Westcott Road.

Officers arrived to find the bus had caused damage to the residence before the occupants fled on foot.

No one inside the home was injured.

Police determined the bus was stolen from Amazing Grace Transportation on State Street in Schenectady.

Officers located two juvenile males, ages 12 and 15, both of Schenectady, in the area nearby.

The juveniles were detained and later released to their guardians.

The Rotterdam Detective Division determined through investigation that the juveniles stole the bus and operated it through Rotterdam until the collision occurred.

Both males will be charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a felony, and criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor.

The case will proceed in Schenectady County Family Court.
