Oxford man arrested on multiple felony charges in Norwich

NORWICH, NY — A 45-year-old Oxford man faces multiple felony charges following an investigation into a stolen trailer and snowmobiles.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Robert M. Demuth in connection with the theft of a 24-foot enclosed trailer containing three snowmobiles.

The Sheriff’s Office received a larceny complaint on Feb. 6, 2026, regarding the stolen items in the Town of Norwich.

On Feb. 9, 2026, deputies received a crime tip about the possible location of the stolen snowmobiles.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division and Detective Division responded to a property in the Town of Norwich, where they located two of the stolen snowmobiles that had been concealed from plain view.

During the investigation, members also located the stolen trailer at a separate location in the Town of Oxford.

Demuth was taken into custody on Feb. 24, 2026, for criminal mischief in the fourth degree following a domestic dispute in the Town of Oxford.

While in custody, Demuth was questioned regarding the stolen trailer and snowmobiles, as well as multiple other larceny investigations.

Demuth was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree and conspiracy in the fifth degree in connection with the Feb. 6, 2026, Norwich case.

Demuth was also charged with grand larceny in the third degree stemming from an August 2024 investigation in the Town of Greene.

He faces additional charges of burglary in the third degree and grand larceny in the fourth degree from a November 2024 investigation in the Town of Greene.

Demuth was arraigned through Centralized Arraignment and released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Greene Court and the Town of Norwich Court at later dates.
