Car fire spreads to garage in Valley Stream

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A vehicle fire spread to a garage and home on Albermarle Avenue on Friday evening.

The Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to the incident just before 6 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a car on fire in a driveway with flames extending to the garage and home.

Crews knocked down the fire with minimal extension to the structure.

Engine 342 and Rescue 347 were first due to the scene.

Assistant Chief Kyle O’Brien commanded all operations.

The closest available fire hydrant was buried under snow.

Firefighters and Nassau County Police Department officers had to clear snow from the hydrant before connecting hoses.

The fire department is reminding residents to clear snow from fire hydrants near their homes.
