HARTLAND, VT — Vermont State Police are investigating a vehicle theft that occurred on U.S. Route 5.
Troopers from the Royalton Barracks were notified at approximately 7:40 a.m. Feb. 22, 2026, of a vehicle stolen from a residence on U.S. Route 5 in Windsor County.
The Hartford Police Department notified state police dispatch that they had recovered the stolen vehicle crashed and unoccupied in Hartford.
An investigation determined that the stolen vehicle was operated by George Akroyd, 35, of Hartford.
Akroyd was cited to appear in Vermont Superior Court Windsor Criminal Division on March 31, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. to answer to charges of aggravated operation without owner’s consent and leaving the scene of an accident.
