Electric vehicle fire closes Interstate 87 in North Hudson

NORTH HUDSON, NY — New York State Police responded to an electric passenger vehicle fire on Interstate 87 southbound near milepost marker 98 on February 23, 2026, at approximately 12:05 p.m.

Troopers observed the vehicle fire upon arrival.

The local volunteer fire department was on scene and worked to extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported.

A temporary detour was established during the response.

Southbound traffic was directed to exit at Exit 30, utilize U.S. Route 9, and re-enter Interstate 87.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 87 have since re-opened.

The investigation is ongoing.
