ORWELL, VT — A tractor-trailer struck a tree on Vermont Route 22A on Feb. 21, 2026, causing intermittent road closures for approximately four hours.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 7:51 a.m. on Route 22A south of Mutton Square Road.
Investigation revealed the tractor-trailer was traveling south when it left the southbound lane and struck a tree.
The vehicle came to rest in an upright position.
The operator, Kenny Barros, 56, of Schenectady, New York, was wearing a seat belt and complained of neck pain.
Barros was transported to Porter Medical Center.
Weather conditions at the time included snow, and roads were snow-covered.
The vehicle sustained front-end contact damage.
Troopers were assisted on scene by DMV Enforcement, Benson Fire Department, Orwell Fire Department and Middlebury Regional EMS.
Barros was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic, a violation carrying a $220 fine and two points.
