SCOTT TOWNSHIP, PA — A man was shot and killed by police early Saturday after he charged at officers with a knife, authorities said.
Scott Township Police assisted Heidelberg Police at approximately 12:00 a.m. on Feb. 22 with a reported armed individual in the 1700 block of Washington Street who was threatening to harm himself and others.
Officers encountered an adult male armed with a knife upon arrival.
Officers gave repeated commands for him to drop the weapon.
The male charged at officers, and a Taser deployment was ineffective, police said.
A Scott Township officer discharged their firearm, striking the subject.
The male was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
No officers were injured.
The Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit is investigating.
