HOOSICK, NY — State Police responded to a report of a missing swimmer in the Hoosic River on June 27, 2026.
At about 7:02 p.m., troopers responded to the area of State Route 67 near the intersection of Beck Road for the report of an unaccounted swimmer.
The investigation determined that a family had been swimming in the area when an adult swimmer became distressed due to a strong current, went underwater, and did not resurface.
A search of the water by first responders located the missing swimmer deceased nearby.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office, Hoosick Falls Police Department, Hoosick Regional EMS, the Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad, Johnsonville Volunteer Fire-Rescue & EMS Company, Buskirk Volunteer Fire Department, and the Easton Volunteer Fire Company.
