Man arrested on DWI charge in Willet

WILLET, NY — A 37-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly damaging property and driving while intoxicated.

Brett G. Hammond, of Willet, was arrested at 5:13 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2026, according to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

An officer responded to a residence on Melody Lane at approximately 3:49 p.m. for a criminal mischief complaint.

Authorities determined Hammond damaged property belonging to the victim.

It was also determined that Hammond was operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition.

Hammond was charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, driving while intoxicated and refusal of breath screening test.

He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

Hammond was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2026.

He was released on his own recognizance.

His next scheduled court appearance is in the Town of Willet Court on March 5, 2026, at 6 p.m.
