Man arrested on burglary, weapons charges in Coeymans

COEYMANS, NY — Police arrested a man Monday after he allegedly attempted to break into a home while armed and threatening to shoot the occupants.

John Fox, 31, of Averill Park, was taken into custody on Camille Drive after officers responded to a report of an armed male attempting to break into a residence, according to Coeymans Police Chief Marc V. Tryon.

Police said Fox was found in possession of a loaded 9mm ghost handgun at the time of his arrest.

Fox was charged with attempted burglary in the first degree, criminal use of a firearm in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, aggravated criminal possession of a weapon, attempted assault in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, menacing in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He was arraigned in Coeymans Town Court and remanded to Albany County Jail.

Following the arrest, Coeymans police executed search warrants at Fox’s residences in Cohoes and Averill Park with assistance from the Albany County and Rensselaer County sheriff’s offices.

Police said they recovered eight illegal handguns, three illegal rifles, two shotguns, 30 high-capacity magazines, ammunition, a 3D printer and controlled substances during the searches.

Additional charges are expected, police said.
